Background

When COVID-19 hit in 2020, theatres across Malaysia went dark. The government’s Movement Control Order (MCO) forced live entertainment to a halt. While retailers quickly turned to eCommerce platforms, there was no equivalent for theatre makers — no digital venue, no ticketing system, no survival plan.

The performing arts community — producers, actors, directors, stage managers — was left stranded. They couldn’t perform. And they couldn’t earn.

The Challenge

Creators couldn’t monetise their shows unless they had millions of followers on Facebook or YouTube — platforms designed for advertisers, not artists.

Traditional theatre wasn’t built for the internet.

And the internet wasn’t built for theatre.

So we asked:

How can we use technology to help the performing arts industry generate income — even when theatres are closed?

Our Goals

We wanted to build a platform that delivered two things:

  1. Revenue for organisers, creators, and performers.
  2. Connection for isolated audiences stuck at home.

We weren’t building another livestream tool.

We were rebuilding the entire theatre experience — for the browser.
